Religion/SpiritualityReal Devotion Vs false Devotion to God August 18, 2011 8:32 pmdattaswami posted  Real Devotion Vs false Devotion to God               The devotion to Lord in the form of theoretical phase as well as practical phase should be done by making God as the final goal.  Such devotion only is real and the real devotees are Hanuman and Gopikas who should be our guides in the spiritual effort.  But very few human beings can attain such level and God says in Gita that one in millions only can attain such state.  In such real spiritual path all the items except God become means only, whereas pleasing God is the final goal.  But majority of human beings is reverse to this real path.  Most of the human beings make God as means to achieve their self-pleasure by crossing the difficulties in life.  Even the devotees who worship the Lord for the upper world also belong to such path only because they are also making God as means to avoid the hell in the upper world.   Crossing the difficulties and attainment of selfish pleasure is the only goal whether the place is earth or upper world.   Hence, for ordinary human beings it is almost impossible to attain such real devotion.  Selfishness is the nature of the soul and can never be avoided like the curve of a dog-tail (Prakritim yaanti Bhutani – Gita).  Therefore, for almost all the human beings God becomes only the instrument or means to attain the selfish pleasure.  Even the so called spiritual aspirants say that the goal of their spiritual effort is only to attain the bliss of God and in their view it is only the selfish bliss and not to give bliss to God.   If you take the case of Hanuman ( a real devotee of Lord), He wanted to commit suicide in the service of His contemporary Human incarnation while searching for Sita ( a female devotee).  He thought that if Sita is not found, Rama will die and instead of becoming cause to the death of Rama, He thought that it is better to end His own life.  Generally people worship God to avoid pre-mature death.  But Hanuman wanted the pre-mature death for the sake of God.  Several demons worshipped God to become immortals without death.  Thus, there is 180-degree difference between Hanuman and demons and hence Hanuman is the bitter enemy for all the demons.          Therefore, to achieve real devotion towards God with a final aim of pleasing God at the cost of one’s own death is a matter of dream for human beings.  http://www.universal-spirituality.org Universal Spirituality for World Peace  Post a Reply
Religion/SpiritualityJesus sacrificeAugust 18, 2011 8:31 pmdattaswami posted  Jesus sacrifice  Jesus tells that unless one is prepared to carry on his own cross for the sake of God, one cannot become the dearest disciple of God.  In fact crucifixion of Jesus was not only to save the real devotees from their sins but also to create kindness in the hearts of even cruel people so that they will be attracted towards spiritual path.  Hence, the crucifixion of Jesus was completely a part of the divine program of God.  Hence, Jesus accepted it to fulfill the work of God.  If you take the case of Hanuman ( a real devotee of Lord), He wanted to commit suicide in the service of His contemporary Human incarnation while searching for Sita ( a female devotee).  The result of such sacrifice is that Hanuman became the future creator and Jesus sat on the right side of God.  When Krishna left His body Gopikas jumped into fire while their husbands were alive.  They have sacrificed not only their lives but also the tradition of jumping into fire only on the occasion of the death of the husband.  They attained Goloka, which is above the abode of God.  Such examples of Hanuman, Jesus and Gopikas stand only as inspiring ideals for ordinary human beings so that at least every human being can at least get pass marks.  http://www.universal-spirituality.org Universal Spirituality for World Peace  Post a Reply
Religion/SpiritualitySelfish low level devotionAugust 18, 2011 8:31 pmdattaswami posted  Selfish low level devotion         It is very clear that the human being can worship God only to cross difficulties and attain selfish pleasure (Maanushananda) and if possible to attain the bliss of God (Brahmananda).  The difficulties may belong to this world or the upper hell but the philosophy is one and the same.  In such case, how to keep the human being constantly in the devotion of God, which is certainly means only and not the end?  Even in such low type of devotion, people forget God as soon as the problems get solved.  For a few days they may remember God with gratefulness but very shortly they forget God.  People will remember the problems of the past forever provided there is a possibility of claiming the credit for their effort.  This means people will remember the difficulties in the past and explain the scenes with lot of interest to others continuously till their date of death provided there is a possibility of mentioning their own capabilities as the means for crossing such difficulties.  Therefore, the past difficulties are of no use to keep the human being in the devotion constantly because God has to be praised and not the self.   Hanuman never told that He jumped over the sea by a single long jump to project his own capability.  Even if some body mentioned about that incident, He would say that He jumped over the sea with the grace of God only.  But if you replace Hanuman by an ordinary human being, what will happen?  For some days he will say that he jumped over the sea by the grace of Rama.  But slowly, as the time passes on, he will be saying that he jumped over the sea by a single jump.  You can see such egoistic attitude in the conversations of even old people who always try to project their capabilities expressed in their past life incidents.  http://www.universal-spirituality.org Universal Spirituality for World Peace  Post a Reply
Religion/SpiritualityPressure of present problems lead to artificial devotion on LordAugust 18, 2011 8:30 pmdattaswami posted  Pressure of present problems lead to artificial devotion on Lord         The only spontaneous devotion towards God (which of course is not real since the devotion is only means) is the pressure of present problems.  The artificial devotion shoots up spontaneously because God is only the final means for crossing such present difficulties.  There is no need of any message or force for the devotee to maintain the devotion during the tenure of the present problems.  But once the problem is solved and peace and happiness are attained, the human being forgets God completely after a very short time.  This ungratefulness towards God is mainly based on the effect of ego because there is no possibility of keeping the self in the place of God in solving such problems.   If there is even a trace of possibility of keeping self in the place of God, the fellow will be constantly remembering that incident till his date of death because it projects the self praise.  You may say that the only alternative is to continue the problems without end.  In fact Kunti asked the Lord for such a boon.  She told that since difficulties alone can maintain the devotion alive in the case of human beings, she asked the Lord for continuous difficulties.  But this is not possible because continuous difficulties also bore the soul and the attitude of God as the divine father is to make the souls happy and not to bore.  http://www.universal-spirituality.org  Post a Reply
Religion/SpiritualityTrue path is always toughAugust 14, 2011 10:27 amdattaswami posted  The majority of the people will oppose the spiritual path preached by you. Only one in thousands can accept your path. Should you not be universal and preach the path acceptable to all the people? In spiritual path, majority always goes to hell. Gita says that one in thousands can only reach the God. Even that one person will reach the Lord after several births (Kaschit Maam Vetti, Bahunaam Janmanaam). Jesus also says that the path leading the hell is very wide with full of rush. The path leading to the Lord is very narrow and only one or two persons will be travelling. The path to the hell is filled with flowers and the path to the Lord is filled with thorns. Therefore the path to the Lord is not acceptable to all. Then shall I recommend the path filled with flowers to all the people, which is easily acceptable to all of them? I am universal because I am preaching the narrow thorny path to all the people. But the path is not universal. I cannot help for that. In the spiritual path only minority exists. There is only one in millions like Sankara, Ramanuja, Madhva, Jesus, Sai, Vivekananda etc., in the spiritual path. The gravel stones are in majority. There is only one Kohinoor diamond, which is valuable. The fraud Gurus shows that flowery path which is “Amrutha Visham” i.e., it looks like nectar but it is actually the poison. The Satguru shows the thorny path, which is “Visha Amrutham” i.e., it looks like poison but it is actually the nectar. Gita says the same (Yat Tat Agre Vishamiva). http://www.universal-spirituality.org Universal Spirituality for World Peace  Post a Reply
Religion/SpiritualityBy sacrifice we are unhappy and the Lord is happy. Is it not the sadism of the Lord?August 14, 2011 10:26 amdattaswami posted  By sacrifice we are unhappy and the Lord is happy. Is it not the sadism of the Lord? The real love requires the unhappiness by sacrifice. In such sacrifice one feels happy since he sacrificed to the Lord. You take the mother. She gives the food to her child and suffers with hunger. But she feels very happy in that suffering. A human being cannot give back any thing for such real love. Even if he gives something i.e., temporary only. But when the real love is proved by the sacrifice the Lord gives the permanent fruit i.e., Brahma Loka. Sakthuprashta gave his food to the Lord in human form though he was not having food for the past ten days. If the guest was an ordinary human being, the guest must have been a sadist, because he never cared about the hunger of Sakthuprastha. But since the guest was the Lord, Sakthuprastha was given infinite wealth in this world and also the permanent Brahma Loka after death. Therefore you must be very careful in fixing the human form of the Lord. Otherwise if the human form is an ordinary human being you are deceived and such a human being is definitely a sadist. The unhappiness in sacrifice and the happiness that neutralizes unhappiness are the characteristics of the path of the sacrifice. The Lord does not insist such path. The path should come from the depth of your heart with full willingness. If you fear for the unhappiness you can never follow that path. When the case comes to your children, you will not put this question because you have real love to them. Are you not sacrificing your food to your child even though you suffer with hunger and feel happy? Since you are not having the real love on the Lord this question is coming to your mind. http://www.universal-spirituality.org Universal Spirituality for World Peace  Post a Reply
Religion/SpiritualityWhat do you mean by Triputi?August 14, 2011 10:26 amdattaswami posted  What do you mean by Triputi? Triputi means the knowledge of three items. 1) The Lord who is the goal 2) The path to please the Lord and 3) yourself. The true knowledge of these three items is 1) you should know that the Lord for a human being is always available in the human form and you can get complete benefit from such human form of the Lord only. You must also know the knowledge the characteristics of the Lord in human form to identify Him (Manusheem Tanumaasritam – Gita). 2) You must know that the only path to please the Lord is sacrifice of all the worldly bonds. The root bond of all these bonds is only the bond with money, which is called ‘Dhaneshana’ since if money is not present the entire bonds will break (Dhanena Tyagenaike). 3) You must know that you are the soul, which is a bundle of the three qualities mixed in different proportions (Naanyam Gunebhyah Kartaram – Gita). You must differentiate yourself from the Lord since the Lord is beyond the qualities (Gunaateethah – Gita). You are the colored shirt and the Lord is the person who is wearing the colored shirt. You can learn about the importance of human form from Hanuman who recognized and worshipped Rama and from Gopikas who recognized and worshipped Krishna. Both are the human incarnations present during their lifetime. They never worshipped statues of the previous incarnations or the forms of the Lord, which are in the upper world like Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva. Similarly you must learn the path of sacrifice from Sakthuprastha who sacrificed even little flour, which he was going to eat after fasting for the last ten days. You must also learn that you are only a soul but not the Lord from Hanuman. You are nothing before Hanuman in knowledge, devotion and power. When such greatest Hero in this world is surrendering to the Lord saying that he is the servant of the Lord (Daasoham Kousalendrasya), you are after all a small baby monkey before Him. Therefore you should know that you are not the Lord and surrender to the Lord as a humble servant. In fact you should become the servant of His servant (Hanuman) before you become a direct servant of the Lord (Daasasya Dasah).  Post a Reply
Religion/SpiritualitySignificance of early morning in the worship of God?August 14, 2011 10:25 amdattaswami posted  Significance of early morning in the worship of God? Early morning is called Brahma Muhurtham, which means that it is the time to worship God. At that time, all the people are in deep sleep and nobody will disturb you. The atmosphere is sacred because the vibrations of mind involved in world matters are not emitted from the people since they are in deep sleep. Mind is also a form of energy. Mind disappears in deep sleep. The atmosphere is not polluted by the radiations of worldly feelings. At that time devotees awake and pray God. Their pure mental rays pervade all over the world and make the time sacred. Thus it becomes congenial and encouraging atmosphere. After sunrise people awake and the materialistic mental radiations are emitted through their physical senses. The atmosphere is polluted. People will disturb you dragging you to materialistic discussions. Even by seeing face, you will be affected. If you see a devotee, you become sacred. The mind and body are inter-related. Since mind is energy and energy is matter, even if you see the body, the mind in that body is emitted out affecting you. Therefore, avoid even the vision of materialistic people, not to say about their touch, conversation and co-living. After sunrise when you worship God, close your eyes to avoid such people. But, their mental radiations spread all over the cosmos and are inevitable. It is better to walk in the early morning while singing devotional songs. Morning walk is good for health. Apart from this, the mind desires dynamic condition of the body. The body was in static condition all over the night. Mind is always for a change. Satisfy the mind and you should not unnecessarily control the mind when it is not necessary. You can pray God even without bath. Veda, Gita and the very first verse of Sandhyavandanam say that God can be worshipped irrespective of physical formalities. After some time body is tired and the mind needs rest. By that time, sunrise is over. Now you sit at a place and worship God closing your eyes. Thus the time has its own invisible effect on the spiritual effort. Sattvam is prominent in the early morning. Rajas is prominent in the day time. Tamas is prominent in the night. Therefore early morning is the divine time called as Brahma Muhurtham. http://www.universal-spirituality.org Universal Spirituality for World Peace  Post a Reply
Religion/SpiritualityThree types of peopleAugust 14, 2011 10:24 amdattaswami posted  Three types of people There are three types of people. The first type of people are ordinary human beings who do not start the spiritual journey. They are strongly attracted by this world and these attractions are the qualities accumulated from millions of births in the soul. Such people are called as Ayukta (Ayuktah Kamakarena Phalesaktah—Gita). The second type of people are called as yogis who practice Yoga and who have not yet completed the training in Yoga. They cannot sacrifice their fruit of the work to the Lord. They can sacrifice the work, devotion by mind, discussions with intelligence and any work with senses of their body like singing songs etc (Kayena Manasa Buddhya—Gita). The third type of people are called as Yuktas, which means the people who have finished the training in Yoga. Such people sacrifice the fruit of work also along with the above (Yuktah Karmaphalam—Gita). The aspects to be achieved by Yoga are the equal reaction to all types of incidents and the reaction must be only peaceful undisturbed balance of mind (Sarvatra Samadarsanah, Prasanta Manasam—Gita). Another aspect is not to think of any worldly matter in leisure time. Such thinking will lead to loss of energy (Nakinchidapi Chintayet—Gita). Another aspect is to realise the achievement of grace of God as the highest profit in the life (Yamlabdhva Naparam—Gita). Another aspect of Yoga is to maintain constant mind even if a mountain of misery falls on you (Na Duhkhe na Gurunapi—Gita). Another aspect of Yoga is not to have even a single worldly desire in mind (Nisspruhah Sarvaakamebhyah—Gita). Another aspect of Yoga is to control the worldly activities to the possible minimum level because if God’s grace is there, any worldly affair will succeed even with minimum effort (Yuktacheshtasya—Gita).   Post a Reply
Religion/SpiritualityYoga & God August 14, 2011 10:24 amdattaswami posted  Yoga & God   You have to receive both the friend and enemy with equality (Suhrunmitraryudasinah—Gita). By this you will treat the Lord with the same devotion even if He reacts as enemy towards you to test your faith. The Lord also tests your attachment with the worldly bonds with reference to His bond. You must prove that His bond is highest. For this you have to reduce the attractions in the world. Such reduction of your attractions is a part of Yoga and is useful directly before the Lord. You should serve the Lord without aspiring anything in return and you must treat both the respect and insult with equality (Sukha Duhkhe Same, Manavamanayoh—Gita). You must treat both profit and loss with equality because when you approach the Lord you may some times get loss instead of profit. Without undergoing such training to achieve self-control or Atma Samyama, one cannot succeed in the tests of the Lord. Sudama developed such self-control during the poverty for a long time. He did not do any sin in spite of the suffering of his family members with poverty. Such training helped him when he went to Lord Krishna. He stayed with the Lord for a few days. During this period he never asked the Lord for anything. The Lord also sent him back without even a trace of help. Sudama never criticised the Lord for not doing any help. He succeeded in the test of the Lord and achieved infinite wealth. Thus Gita gives the real meaning of Yoga, which is the self-control without being attracted by diversions. Such diversions are these charkas, which are nothing but the obstructions to pass in the test of the Lord. This training is like one full year academic course and is very important. The test of the Lord is a matter of three-hour examination at the end of the year. If you have finished this training, the Lord Himself will come to you in human form, conduct the test and will give you the certificate. Therefore you should concentrate on the Gita, which is called as Yoga Sastra or The scripture of Yoga. The examiner, examination and the certificate are consequent steps, which will take place spontaneously on the divine will. Therefore the study of Gita helps you really on this day of festival and eating these sweets leads only to problems of indigestion. Praising the examiner with songs (Bhajans) also will not help you because the examiner is very clever and strict and cannot be soaped. It is better to hear His divine knowledge, assimilate and pass the examination. Such path gives you a dignity and respect to the divine teacher also. Instead of taking this royal path, why are you sorting to unlawful means of soaping like chanting His name (Japam), worshipping Him (Puja), singing (Bhajans) in order to get such certificates.   Post a Reply
